This course will focus on the topic of creating convincing and believable form using light and colour. Through a variety of painting exercises, students will be guided to learn and improve their understanding depicting three dimensional form and space. Students will learn by creating studies to approach form painting, value contrast, colour contrast, and saturation contrast.

First few classes will focus on understanding black and white (value) and understanding their roles in light and shadow. Students will move on to working with colour within form and eventually using limited palettes to create harmonizing compositions.

Throughout the course, the instructor will also help students with palette organization, colour mixing, and technical story telling using light and colour.

The course will also explore the use of oils,  through the practice of painting master studies, simple form paintings, and portraiture.
